The project “Alexandra Estate” started in 2012. This is the year when the first vineyards comprising 200 hectares in their first year of fruit-bearing are bought in Oreshets village, Harmanli area.
Oreshets village is situated in the well-known Southeastern region of Bulgaria, while the vineyards are in the foot of the East Rodopa mountains and are neighbouring a 100-year old oak forest. The aspect is north, which allows for the grapes to retain high acidity even in this area, where the climate is usually hot. The varieties are: Syrah, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Chardonnay, Marsanne, Rousanne, Semillion and Viognier. In 2013 “Alexandra Estate” expands by 100 hectares more in Rakitnitsa village, Stara Zagora area. Characteristic for this vineyard are the carbonic soils and altitude of 300 m. The vineyard will be in its first year of fruit-bearing during 2016. The varieties are: Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Semillion.
The vineyards of “Alexandra Estate” are organically and biodinamically tended.
In 2014 “Alexandra Estate” will produce 30 000 bottles of white, rose and red wines. This year the construction of the winery “Alexandra Estate” will begin in Rakitnitsa village. The winery will have a total production capacity of 60 000 bottles. A second winery in Oreshets village with a total production capacity of 60 000 bottles is being designed.
The wines from “Alexandra Estate” at the moment are: ALEXANDRA RESERVE, ALEXANDRA CHARDONNAY 2013, ALEXANDRA SAUVIGNON BLANC 2013, ALEXANDRA VERMENTINO 2013 и ALEXANDRA ROSE from MOURVERDE & GRENACHE 2013. The vinification is carried out in different places, using own French 225l and 300l barrels. All of the wines, except for the ALEXANDRA SAUVIGNON BLANC 2013, are fermented and aged in barrels, even the rose has a small percentage of wine fermented in barrels.
For “Alexandra Estate” are working proffecionals, proven in their area of expertise: Atanas Shiderov and Eric Moro are responsible for the vineyards and the vinification and blendind are entrusted to Aleksander Veliyanov and Thierry Haberer.
